Some electrical problems can wait until next week. Some cannot. If you can smell burning, if the board is hot or buzzing, or if there is any chance of water getting into the wiring, turn the power off at the main switch and call us.
If it is safe to reach the switchboard, switch off the main switch or the affected circuit before you do anything else. Do not open the board, do not pull a fitting apart and do not touch anything that is wet. Then call us on 0449 501 616 and tell us what you are seeing.
The first job is to make the installation safe. After that we isolate the fault, tell you what caused it and what it will take to fix properly, and do the repair. If the real problem turns out to be the board itself, we will tell you that rather than reset it and leave.
Loss of supply across several homes is a network problem rather than a problem inside your place, and the distributor has to fix it. Check whether the neighbours have power before you call an electrician, because it will save you a callout.
Unplug everything on that circuit and reset it once. If it holds, plug items back one at a time to find the culprit. If it trips straight back with nothing plugged in, leave it off and call us, because the fault is in the wiring.
Turn the main switch off if you can safely reach it, leave the board closed and call us. Do not wait to see whether the smell goes away.
That points to something inside your installation, usually a tripped main or a fault on a circuit. Have a look at the board and give us a ring with what you can see.
